What is the Victorian Energy Upgrade Program?

The Victorian Energy Upgrades (VEU) scheme allows Authorised Providers (APs) such as EZYAIR to provide incentives for people upgrading to energy-efficient air conditioning systems in Victoria. When an air conditioning system is installed or upgraded by EZYAIR, businesses and households will receive a rebate for making improvements to the energy efficiency of their air conditioning units.

Upgrades to air conditioning systems can involve removing gas heaters and replacing them with reverse cycle air conditioners, optimising existing systems to enhance energy performance and changing over existing split system air conditioners to a more efficient split system.

As an Authorised Provider, EZYAIR can complete all required pre-installation checks and post installation audits to ensure the maximum savings are passed on when upgrading your air conditioning or heating system. The exact value of the rebate is based on the type of air conditioner you are replacing and what kind of air conditioner you are replacing it with. Who is eligible for a VEU rebate?

Every household in Victoria is eligible for rebates through the Victorian Energy Upgrade (VEU) program. There are no minimum or maximum income requirements. Your property must be more than 2 years old and you must be upgrading an existing heating and cooling system with a more energy efficient system.

How much is the rebate?

The value of the rebate is specific to the type of system you remove and what type of heating or cooling system you replace it with. EZYAIR can help you select the most energy efficient product that also gives you the highest return and the rebate is taken off the price of your installation. For example:

1. If you are replacing a gas ducted heater with a reverse cycle ducted system, the rebate is between $1000 to $8000.
2. If you are replacing a gas ducted heater with a reverse cycle multi-split system, the rebate is between $1000 and $7000.
3. If you are replacing a gas space heater with a reverse cycle multi-split system, the rebate is between $900 to $3000.
4. If you are replacing an old split system with a new reverse cycle split system, the rebate is between $200 and $500.

How many claims can you make through EZYAIR and the VEU?

Victrorian Energy Efficiency Certificates (VEECs) can generated for each gas heater that is being upgraded per property. There is currently a maximum of 5 VEU claims per domestic property at the time of writing. Keep in mind that each claim can generate up to 90 VEEC certificates each, meaning it is possible to generate 5 x 90 (450) VEECs per property!

Are businesses, schools, clubs, organisations and places of worship eligible for the VEU upgrade scheme?

Yes! Victorian Energy Upgrade Certificates are applicable for commercial properties. The VEECs are generated at a lower rebate value in comparison to domestic upgrades but more claims can be made to account for larger premises/buildings.

Who is an Authorised Provider of the VEU?

EZYAIR is directly registered with Essential Services Commission as an Authorised Provider of the VEU program to supply, install and upgrade heating and cooling systems. Only Authorised Providers like EZYAIR can generate VEECs on behalf of their customers and must follow the VEU's code of conduct, which involves ongoing quality control and quality assureance audits.
